Birmingham Independent Insurance Agents (BIIA)  is a non-profit organization that has served Property & Casualty agents and companies of Birmingham since 1922. BIIA works to educate and communicate current insurance issues and trends to its members. BIIA offers various social and business events throughout the year to benefit our members and our community. Some of what we do includes:

BIIA Gala

Each January, BIIA hosts a charity event where members and non-members can enjoy a relaxing evening of socializing and entertainment for a good cause.  Past events have included dinner and drinks, casino style games, a silent auction, and tons of door prizes. Proceeds from the event benefit charitable organizations in the Greater Birmingham Area.

Charities that have benefitted from the BIIA Gala include American Cancer Society’s Hope lodge, United Ability (Formerly known as United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham), Russellville Dream Center,  March of Dimes, UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, Children’s Aid Society, and more. In the past five years alone, the BIIA Gala has donated more than $60,000 to charities.

The 2019 BIIA Gala will benefit the American Heart Association AND the March of Dimes. The event will be held on Friday, January 25th at The Club from 6-10pm.

Networking and Social Opportunities

Multiple times a year, BIIA puts on informal gatherings which are offered free to members. They provide an opportunity for agents, brokers, and company representatives to network and socialize after work at a local restaurant in a relaxed, casual atmosphere.

Supporting Our Community

BIIA believes in supporting our local community through contributions made to many non-profits and charitable organizations such as the Alabama Children’s Hospital, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, Children’s Aid Society, The Foundry, Gateway, Junior Achievement Programs, Kid OneTransport, PositiveMaturity, the YMCA, Christian Service Mission, and many more.

In 2016, BIIA supported the Big Oak Ranch, The Salvation Army, Latch & Live Foundation, Jessie’s Place, and Redemptive Cycles by giving a check to help with each organization’s efforts.

Also in 2017 BIIA also made a sizeable donation to the Trusted Choice Disaster Relief Fund for victims of the flooding in Louisiana. In 2017, BIIA contributed again to the Trusted Choice Disaster Relief Fund to help the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. In 2018, BIIA contributed again to help hurricane victims in the south–South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

Christmas Open House

Each December BIIA offers holiday warmth and extends our appreciation to members and association friends for their support and patronage throughout the year. We host our annual Christmas Open House and provide lunch, music, fellowship, and door prizes for the attendees. The election and installation of BIIA’s new term of officers, directors, and chairpersons are held at this annual meeting.

We also host a toy drive at this event to benefit local kids in need.
